Take a look at this burnout in a BMW E36 325is. The burnout in place seems to be the hardest type of burnouts to me, but then, I’m no expert in that field. So, I’m going to leave the explanation for the experts here. How can you do this? Anyone tried this before? and most important to me, can a BMW 318is do that or you need a stronger engine?

    Here in the US we call that a brakestand. You heel and toe the gas and brake pedals, to apply the brakes just enough to hold the front wheels, and enough gas to break the rears loose.

    I wouldn’t be trying it in a 318, Tony. I’d be afraid the tires wouldn’t completely break loose, the wheels would hop, and you might break your diff.

    When I worked as a mechanic, I saw this kid with a Jeep Wrangler who had tried to do burnouts, and had sheared EVERY tooth off his pinion gear in his diff! So make sure you have the power to break the tires completely loose, or else the hopping will slam the gears back and forth in the diff.

    in your 318 that should be no problem just make sure the revs are high
    before you engage the clutch

    if its wet a 318 will spin them up and do that sort of thing fine. but in the dry is a completely different story. Seth is right, you “WILL” blow your diff! trust me. i have a 318is and i have gone through 5 diffs in it. if you want to do any of those sort of things you need a stronger diff. the ones in 318’s are pathetic you will need at least one out of a 320 or up to make it strong enough to do it. but even then you cant do it for long. the 4cyl engine just cant keep them spinning like the 325 does in this vid.

    so long story short. it will be able to do a small one burnout but not for very long. you will need to rev the engine very high and you will most likely blow the diff unless you have a stronger one.

You know, I normally hate doing burnouts in a BMW because it puts heavy loads on the engine and that shouldn’t be done (your car doesn’t deserve that), but from time to time… I feel I want to do it regardless :D .
