One mans scrap is another mans little dixy!!!!

Postby 96_323 on Fri Jan 29, 2010 11:56 pm

So, i was down the scrap yard earlier today sourcing a used rear taillight for a neighbor, when my eyes landed on a heavenly looking 323i sitting in the corner of the yard.
I shout to the yard owner, "how much those alloys on that beemer"
He shouts, "What you willing to pay?"
My response "Nothing, there scraped to f@*$, just thought i could use them as cheap things for the track racing"
He walked away :(

So been the bargain hunter i am, i wonder over to fore-mentioned beemer.
The alloys are the exact same 6 spoke alloys on my car except there 17inch, a quick duck onto my knees for inspection and around the back shows me theres no major buckles!!!!

I turn to the yard owner when i was paying for the neighbors light and tell him ill throw him €20 for the alloys and ill drop down a bit of spliffage next friday.
He says "happy out"

Iv spent from 4pm till 10.30pm sanding down the alloys and plan to paint them over sunday and the following friday!
Im taking pictures as i go along and will have them up on this topic by late next week.
I really do love the scrap yard!!!
You never know what you will find :D

I reckon iv prob nicked more stuff from the scrap yards than iv paid for. Just make sure you wear a big thick jumper and your happy!!
Half the stuff you get from scrap yards can usually be reconditioned to near new condition aswel, just as long as your willing to spend time on it!!

Just finished sanding 2 of them and put an undercoat on each of them today, the paint is the same colour as it was originally but thinking of going 2 or 3 shades darker.
Iv not taken any pics today but will next friady.
Iv only 1 pic so far and it was taken after giving them a good clean. The wheel on the right was given a quick coat of paint just to test for colour.

Ill make sure to get a close up of the curbing damage on them before i sand all of them down. There all fairly well curbed except for 1 which has only 1/4 of it curbed.

They look nice although the picture is not very clear. I'm sure after the paint, they're going to look great. please show us the final result when you're done.

Having a problem with photo bucket and it wont let me copy the link off the pic, ill get them up on here later on today!
