working on the ground I couldn't get anywhere trying to do this myself, took it to a local garage I use and the mechanic took a look and said there is plenty of fliud in the gearbox, so I explaned the problem to him,
he said sounds more like a clutch problem, air in there somewhere as the pedal itself is very good, so I tried bleeding the clutch, managed to get all the air out, then stupidly over tightend the bleed nipple on slave cylinder and it snapped off!

so now just waiting for that to arrive then hopefully that fixes it!

feel so annoyed and stupid for breaking it! that's the joys of doing it yourself I guess!

Hi,

Thanks for the advice, with my basic tools and not being able to jack it up enough, I took it to my local garage who put it on the ramp then said there was enough fluid in there? so I explained the problem again to him, he said it had a good pedal so must be air in the fluid and sent me off to bleed the slave cylinder.

I was doing really well last week, got all the air out then stupidly over tightend it and snapped the bleed nipple!
had to order a new slave cylinder and have to fit it today
so anyone else trying this be very careful don't over tighen it like I did.
will confirm once its running again if this solved it fingers crossed!

Fitted the Slave Cylinder no problems apart from the top bolt being a little stubben, sorted that with good old wd40!
then changed over and bled no trouble.
Pedal feels so much better, took for a short run & wow ! big difference.

need to take for a longer run but need to sort out the electric window issue first so i can close them! to cold in UK at the moment for open windows

Ha ha you obviously dont have your alfa to long or else you got one of the good reliable ones!!!
I learnt more about how a car works in 6months of owning an alfa than i did in 3 years of training to be a mechanic!!!
