318is running problem

I own an M reg 318is which i have a problem with.
When the car is cold it seems to run fine. Tickover is 1000 revs.
As soon as the engine starts to warm up i start to get what seems like a misfire. as the engine gets warmer and warmer the problem gets worse. There is a complete loss of power until i put the clutch on,rev it a little and release clutch again. It is a little scarey at times like pulling out on a busy road or at a roundabout. Also when the engine is warm my tickover is up an down between 600 and 1000 revs. It almost reminds me of an old manual choke being left on when it should have been turned off.
Can anybody help me solve the problem please.

i think it sounds like you need to change the plugs, leads and maybe distibutor cap just to be safe. it wont cost much and you could do the work your self just dont get electricuted lol. all the best

Have you tried cleaning the I.C.V. Yet?
I seem to remember a few people with symptons like that and the cleaning did the trick.
Heres a link to a step by step guide.
