320i automatic gearbox

Postby Johndean Lesch on Sun May 29, 2011 12:16 pm

hi all,
i bought a 320i E36 1993 model.
the problem i have with her is that she will not go into 5th gear at all.
i went up to 200km in 4th gear, but she never went into 5th. this is a big problem for me as i do alot of driving and with no overdrive it tends to be a bit heavy on fuel.
please people i need some advice on this :(

Not driving it all the time with the S E and snowflake button pushed to S are you?
In s it holds in lower gears longer and dosn't use 5th in snowflake it dosn't use 1st and if you move the gear leaver to 2 3 or 4 then it will hold it in that gear so you can take off in 4th if you realy want( a bit slow off the mark tho lol). E is the only setting to use all 5 gears so mayby yours is stuck in S for some reason checking the button is a good place to start anyway.

davidaln9,

Hi davidaln9,

Did you ever find out if the no go into 5th problem was ever remedied with Johndean's E36 ?

Mine is doing the same... Gave it an oil change but no difference. Nissan Box I think.....

Appreciate any advice...

I don't have any "sage" advice, but am wondering if you got it resolved, and what the solution was.

Hi eveyrbody. I own a 1997 320i E36 saloon automatic and I m facing similar probs with gearbox. It used to getting "stuck" somewhere between shifting 1st gear to 2nd, I 've spent some 2500euros to fix it but now, after almost 3yrs, its happening again. Additionally, only E is working. S and snowflake dont work at all. Changed the oil but nothing changed. I m thinking to replace the gearbox!!! Any suggestions or ideas?
Many thanks
