6 Cylinder only running on 5 Cylinders

Postby MissSomerset on Thu Sep 13, 2012 2:43 am

I have a beautiful 1995 325i Convertible E36 and my DME computer apparently got wet while at the car wash and my car would not start or should i say turn over. The owner at the car wash said that my computer got wet and he stuck an air hose with high psi pressure in my car under the glove box and just blew it out like nobody's business. Anyway, I got another DME exactly the same numbers already programmed and put it in and it started up! But one problem, its only running on 5 cylinders now and one of the cylinders i cant get a pulse reading. I would be most greatful if anyone might know what I need to do next.
Thanking you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter, I remain,
respectfully,
Miss Laura Somerset

Hi Laura, a quick and dirty test to check if it actually is a DME fault would be to swap the ignition coil that's not firing to another cylinder and see if the problem follows the coil.
I wouldn't say it's a common problem that one will go but it's certainly not heard of.
Water sitting around the spark plug could cause behaviour this too.
