I have a 1998 328is, I am experiencing continous blown fuse #37, it is labeled instrument cluster on the fuse box cover. The problem occurs when I turn the lights on. I can replace the fuse and all is well driving in the daylight, the CHECK status shows no problems. However, when I turn the light switch on, the taillight error happens, all lights to the instruments are out, the radio still plays and I can see the radio lights (channel) and the onboard computer lights. All other lights are out. Have anyone experienced anything like that? I have replaced the Headlight Switch, but the problem still exists. Any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with a 1998 328i, but based on your description it sounds like you have a short to ground in the tail lights, but this is pure speculation because I don't know what triggers a "tail light error". I'm guessing here, but the first place I would check are all the tail light lamps/sockets.

Remove the taillights, replace the fuse, then turn on your lights an see if it blows again. If it does then the chances are there is an exposed wire further along the line.Then it's a case of tracing the wires from the taillights towards the front of the car. Remove the front and rear seats and the carpet and side trims. The chances are it'll either be under the rear seat or in a side trim where there is more of a chance of the wires moving or rubbing.

Got it! The problem was 3 frayed wires in the cabeling channeled down the boot/Trunk lid where it bends when opened. I opened up the area where the bend was and luckily it was the exact location. I re-attached the wires and applied electrical tape to each. Tested the circuit and it worked perfectly, I then re-taped the main line and placed it back into the cabeling clips.
