BMW 316i Compact 1998 Rear Wiper problem.

I have recently acquired a 316i compact 1998 model and have discovered a very irritating problem with the rear wash wiper. When i activate it, it works without any problems in its intermittent mode, however when i deactivate it, it decides to ignore me and carry on going! Not a massive problem i admit but very irritating as the only way i can overcome this at the moment is to pull over, kill the engine, restart the engine and then carry on with my journey.
(Front wipers function normally on all settings, just the rear one is problematic)
Has anyone else had a similar problem ? Any advice regarding fixing it would be gratefully recieved. Thanks in advance.

when you say you de activiate it, do you hold the stalk back, or just give it a flick?? if your holding it back thats where your going wrong, all you have to do is flick it again and it goes off.
hope this helps

this confused me for a while as well

you HOLD it in place to activate the wash wipe, you let go, it wipes a couple more times to catch the drips then stop.

You click it into place and let it spring back once, it puts it into intermittent mode, click it again, it is in 'on' mode, then click it again and it is in off mode. Except it wipes a couple of times anyway to wipe the drips. Seriously confusing!

Basically the best thing to do is only ever wash-wipe unless it's actually raining. Then hope it doesn't stop before you reach your destination.... hehe
