camshaft position sensor

hello all, my 99 323i stalled today and took a minute to start. the engine light came on and my scanner says camshaft position sensor bank 1, can someone explain this and point me in the right direction to fix it myself. the car runs but im reluctant to drive it until i learn more. thanks

Yes I have a 97 328ic here in the states--I just started getting that code thrown--my car still runs fine--but I ordered the part thru pelicanparts.com for $85 and here is the URL below for the install--
My mechanic quoted 1 hour of labor---so if you have a good mechanic---maybe just take it in--
the part of pretty cheap---good luck---!!
