Central locking acting up after stereo fix

Postby GreenE36 on Tue Feb 01, 2011 10:25 pm

Hi, I'm new and did a search but couldn't find anything that may apply to my isse. Maybe I didn't search hard enough :) Maybe this should go in Electrical Issues?
Anyway, here goes:

1993 E36 4door
After having the stereo out for a fix the central locks won't stay locked. Also when I have this issue the interior light won't go out automatically as it should after a minute or so.

I was messing around with the wiring behind the stereo to see if anything was disconnected/broken or frayed but cables looked ok. When I pushed cables back again it seemed that somehow fixed it but it came back again today.
I figure there is an issue with the wiring that causes this as it happened later the same day I took the stereo out to fix it.
It seems as the car won't read the door as shut, hence why light stays on and lock buttons immediately pops up again
Maybe a front door switch but more likely a bad connection in the wires behind the stereo?
Does the wiring for interior light and doors go back there?

I read about this fix on another place.
Apparently the locking mechanism can get worn and to try putting some electrical tap on the door like this:

Lo and behold it did seem to work, for now... :)
Just really odd it happened at the same time as the stereo was out.

To be continued.
