Central Locking Failure!!!

Hello all,

I have a 1998 BMW 318I SE but last week the boot stopped working when central locking (by central locking I mean locking the drivers door and all other doors lock automatically, as never had a fob with this car), then yesterday all the other doors stopped locking. I am at the point now where I have to lock and unlock each door individually. Could this be an electrical fault or does it sound like a I may need to replace a part on the drivers door? Any help would be gratefully appreciated :D

Also whilst looking under around the car for any lose wires etc, I discovered that under both the drivers and passengers seats are white plugs that don't seem to be plugged into anything, they go in to the floor with a really thick black wire and I think are also attached to the air bag wires. Can anyone shed any light on this at all?

Thanks very much

Karl

The wires under the seat sound like the seatbelt pretensioners IN an accident they tighten up the seatbelt.
As for the door it could be the sender unit on the lock or a broken wire also check all fuses. Doors should lock when front passenger door lock button is pushed I think. I know all locks should also operate when you lock the boot so if they don't work from the boot as well check fuses and relays.
