Cold start idle

Postby wayneke on Sun Dec 20, 2009 11:51 am

Hi guys! I have a 1995 316i M43 engine. In the morning after it has been not driving for a while when I start it up it idles at 500-600RPM & after it warms up it idles at 11000-12000RPM where it stays. I am not getting any warning lights up on dash & not using any more fuel than normal. Can anyone give me advice on this? because its driving me crazy. Just to not its NOT erratic idling like you would get with a dirty IVC like some of the threds i have been looking at on here. I have just done a full service & did notice that the spark were a bit sutty & I dont know when they were changed last

I would clean the ICV anyway before jumping to any other options. AFAIK, it's not necessary for the ICV to just cause erratic idling. It may cause all kinds of trouble to your idle.

After that, I'd suggest checking all your car's pipes for air leaks. Maybe one of the hoses is cracked.
best regards,

Cheers,

I'll give that a go & post an update. I thought the IVC just gave erratic idling i didn't know it would give all other issues. I'll give that a shot first.
