Postby tophE36 on Sat Nov 21, 2009 10:08 pm

hey i have a 1993 325is i just bought and everything seemed fine when i fist got it. but now its always overheating. it runs at 1/2 temp and then it usallys slowy starts to over heat when it starts over heatin the heat go aways if i ride out the second and third gear for a min it the temp goes back down to 1/2 im always finding myself to this. i realized i have no cooling fan and clutch fan in the car i kno the guy i boiught it from said he did something to bypass the cooling fan so i just went out and i bought a fan clutch and fan blade and i installed it i did this when it completey cold and in my expantion tank it was bone dryso i toped it off with 5o/50 antifreeze then i took the car out for a lil drive and it stated to over heat again so i had to ride out the gear like usally came home i cracked the bleeder till all the air stoped and a lil fluild came out and i open ed the tank cap and there was nuttin in there so i poored a lil more antifreeze. then i took it for another ride and it doesnt seem to be overheating anymore. im not sure if i have fixed the problem or not i only just did it havent really drivin it. but does anyone know anything about any of the othere problem acuring i dont understand y i have to ride my gear out and it starts to cool back down and my heat was also comeing and going before the heats not really warm now when im sitting but it still seems to be warm but cool at the same time

Im not 100% certain as to what your asking but...
The reason the engine cools down when you speed up is because air is been forced into the engine bay and the car doesn't need the fan to cool it. Is your fan kicking in when it over heats?

I faced a similar problem two or three months ago. My fan is electrical and I hear it working all the time whenver the car overheats. When the problem occured, the car started to overheat whenever I'm driving in a traffic jam or when I'm stopping at traffic lights. I checked everything except the electric fan thinking it's working just fine. After I tried almost everything, I tried to wait and see if the fan is working correctly. I found that one of its wires is loose and that the fan is not working at all. So, I believe you have the same problem. Your fan is not working at all. I suggest you check that then look at other possibilities.
best regards,
