Display board lights

Postby ROSIE on Sun Oct 14, 2012 4:46 pm

BMW 318Ti 2004 - The lights on the display cluster keep going off, particularly when I take it to the repair shop!
This is costing me a bomb, any idea what the cause could be?

Re: Display board lights

Hi Lealan, It's really weird. It started happening about 6 weeks ago, the lights and indicators are working ok outside, but sometimes the indicator lights and lights behind the speedo/rev counters on the dashboard only work intermittently. The bottom line - showing mileage etc, don't show up at all. The radio works - but no display shows

Took the car to the garage last week, but when I arrived everything was working fine and he couldn't find a fault. Got the car home and when I used it next time it had again stopped working. This evening the indicator lights on the dashboard worked on the right side but not on the left, but within a few minutes they both worked fine. Checked a few minutes later and neither worked. Took the key out and the dashboard lit up completely for several minutes.

Also, for some time now I haven't been able to use the key fob to lock the car as the alarm kept coming on and annoying the neighbours. Now I can only lock the car with the key.
Any ideas would be very helpful
