Driver side window

Postby Jonnycash22 on Sat Sep 12, 2009 10:30 pm

Hello, I have a 1996 328is. I am having issues with the driver side window. Sometimes, when i try to roll it back up, it will go up a little bit and then stop- meaning i have press the button again to continue rolling it up. Even when i start rolling it up and i continue to hold the window button, it still sometimes will stop part-way up, and i then have to press it again. Sometimes it will do this once or twice before the window is fully rolled up all the way. Is this an issue with the window motor? or is there something else wrong? Also, how much do u think it would cost to replace a driver side automatic window motor? Thank you.

You could try to reset the 1-touch mechanism.

Turn key to on, fully lower the windows, push and hold the up button, continue to hold for about 5 seconds after the window is fully up.

If that doesn't fix it, then it is most probably the motor itself. There is a sensor in the motor itself that can get dislodged and then it fails.

ok i'll try to reset the 1-touch mechanism. How much does a new window motor cost usually?

I personally wouldnt bother with a new motor as there not cheap. A scrap yard will always have at least 1 BMW sitting in it for what ever reason. But dont pay any more than 30euro off a scrap yard!

Its very hard to say without actually seeing it, it could be the motor or it could be the metal wire thats connected to the motor that actually lifts the window up which may have slipped off the motor. Only way of finding out is by taking the door card off.
