E36 convt. Window issues

Postby Stinkydog on Fri Jul 08, 2011 8:45 pm

I have a 99 M3 convertable. The drivers door window when you hit a bump, hit the door with your hand, close the door hard...etc, keeps cycling the "up/down" mode as in when you open/close the door. It will continue to do this until the window is put down, or the door is opened. Any thoughts? A micro-switch, broken wire, bad door lock...help please!

I was checking-out my door jamb switch the other day (my dome lights don't work when I open the door) and found that when I jiggled the wire bundle, the window would move. I inspected the wires and found about 4 of them chaffed and grounding against the door frame and each other. I also had my doors lock by themselves when I hit a bump. I'm hoping I fixed that too by finding the chaffed wires. Anyway, if you want to check your wires, you'll need to remove your interior door panel and inspect the wire bundle that runs across the length of the door. Have some electrical tape handy! Good luck.
