No cant imagine its anything to do with the injectors. Whats it like when it revs? Is it hitting the 4k mark like it hits a rev limiter or is it struggling to even hit the 4k line??

hi it revs around the 500 mark and it gets 2 4000 rpm quite quick and just limmets. before it was a bite ropey with flat spots so i chainged the air flow meater and it goes alot better but still limmets at 4000 rpm

When I bought my car, it was idling @ 500 RPMs which is really weird because all E36's I've seen were idling at 700 or 750. I've noticed also that when I drive the car very hard, the engine will cut off around 4000 or 4500 RPMs instead of 6000 or 6500. At the end, I found out that the instument cluster which was installed in my car was not the original one and that the previous owner of the car has replaced it somehow with a 6-cylinder cluster (my car is 318is M42). After, I replaced the instument cluster all together, my car is now idling at 700 and will rev until 6500.
I'm not sure if this is the same case as yours, but thought I'd let you know. Maybe it'd help. Of course, if your car used to idle at 700 and that the problem is new, then you don't have the same problem like mine.

I believe you can get the corrent instrument cluster p/n from realoem.com . After that, you can easily remove your instrument cluster and compare its p/n with the one from realoem. If you found it to be different, then you can look for a replacement.
