Front wheel vibration

Postby jonnyb on Sat Jan 31, 2009 9:31 pm

What a great site. I am new to this so forgive me if this is a repeat of previous requests for info...I have a 320i touring e36 which until recently has been a gem. It has provided me with 230k troublefree miles...but has now sprung a few issues. Can i please get some advice on the following: steering vibration at 70-80mph seems to be coming from near side ... new tyres, balanced, brake pads replaced and pistons serviced, no apparent wear in wheel bearings...only thing i can think of left is either mis-shapen tyre or possibly warped discs?? Any thoughts as, given its age, it may not be worth an expensive trip to the bank....Also got an issue with a faulty petrol gauge...sender unit seems ok - possibly the needle unit itself which i presume is a new set of clocks (as above...any ideas - is this an easy replacement job or is it a real headache?) Finally - she runs on LPG so if she is destined for the breakers due to electronic oddness and failing body work, does anyone know of an e36 tourer that has got a blown engine that mine could be transplanted into ? Thats for starters folks. Thanks for your assistance in anticipation!! Cheers.

your wheel problem cant b the brakes if its all the time, would only b brakes if it happened when u applied them.

if u think its the misshaped tyre, put the fronts on 2 rear and rear on 2 front and c if the vibration moves.

let us know what happens!

you may also want to have a look at the wishbone.. mine had the ball joint wear out on it and it vibrated at speeds over 60 k..
