funny wering noise

Hi i have a 328i tourer, it has this funny wering noise and i can't locate it is coming from the inlet side of the engine.
It sounds abit like a supercharger if that helps and gets faster with with the engine revs.
I cant figer it out, ill be honest im not a mechanic i do bits and bobs but draw the line and big jobs i cant see that this would be anything major tho it might be, the car performs as you would expect, just this bloody noise.
Also i need to get a new ignitoin barral for the car only on ebay i just find the whole steering columb any ideas. Many Thanks Darryl

it was the alternator never had go like that before
