headlight advice please

Postby pritch21 on Fri Oct 02, 2009 2:12 pm

hey people i am planning to mod my headlights.

you know that the standard headlights are black.... well i am planning to paint the suround the same collour as the car ( like the car pictured in the photo at the top of this page ). jus wondering what your thoughts on this would be. after doing that i am planning a HID conversion and placing ccfl angel eye rings in them.

has any one placed the angel eye kit in themselfs before? if so how difficult was it.?

also

has any one fitted a HID kit before and again how difficult is this to do.?

thanks and hope for a reply soon so i can get started.

I have never done that, but I think you will have to bake the front glass cover to separate the glass from the black plastic frame. Perhaps it helps with your googling.

Installing angel eyes is very easy. You will have to take the inner glasses out to do the painting anyways. Just glue the halos to each inner glass. I used 3M double-sided tape, and it works wonders, it is heat resistant.

Before buying a cheap aftermarket HID kit please consider doing a proper HID-projector retrofit. I had an aftermarket H1 HID kit 6000k in my DEPO-like headlights, and output was weak. Halogen projectors don't have the proper focal point for a HID bulb. Also their cuttoff is dangerous for other drivers... it is very glary unless you aim them really low. Result: you end up with bad performing headlights.

Proper HID retrofit isn't hard on E36 headlights, take a look: http://www.bmwe36blog.com/forum/project-%22uncrapify-my-headlights%22-t310.html

I have tried it the DIY myself it is a very nice and beautiful work i recond, but you need to be patient to all the detail and it turn un satisfying. The method are all the same in the forum but before you do it chech the original headlight beam and make a record somewhere and when you refix it with the hid you can easily adjust it to the original position of your headlight.
Be patient and that what DIY mean for
