Headlight issues

Postby boshellg on Mon Mar 02, 2009 2:56 am

I purchased a 98 328i 4dr. The owner before me upgrade the headlights to angel eyes. He did a bad job with the wiring. He has Cut & spliced and taped it all up.
I went out and got a sauter gun and fixed all the wires. The only issue is that the turn signals only work if the headlights are not on. When I turn on the head lights the brinkers go solid and will not flash. The only way they work is leave the headlights off. Thats fine if its day time. I also hear a short buz under the dash when i turn on the head lights. Can someone offer advise.

Can you post a few pics of the wiring? I may be able to help as I installed ccfl angel eyes on my car with no problems.

Cheers, Mike

If capoach can help you, you're in luck...Otherwise with a multimeter, spare battery, soldering iron and a bit of patience you should be able to get it fixed up.

You use the battery(or any other 12v power source) to find out which wires on the head lights light up which lights then label them. Next you use the multimeter to suss out which wire are live when you turn your different lights on and off inside the car, label them as well. Then all thats left is to do is re solder them up and heat shrink them up.

From the way the question is worded it sounds like the original wiring was mess but worked(I don't know what country you're in but don't you need a roadworthy(which requires all lights be working properly) when a car is sold and gets transfered into you name?) Maybe it would have just been easier to leave it as it was.
