Instrument cluster stopped

I just picked up an E36 316i. The instrument cluster stopped working long time ago. All clocks stopped.

Does anyone know if the instrument cluster can be replaced for a used working one? How easy is that. I saw quite a few are on sale on Ebay, but I wouldn't attempt until I know for sure that there is chance the new item can work my car.

Further, my old instrument cluster has an analog clock on it, in the place of the rev. counter. Of course, that means there is no rev. counter.

Can I change to one that has the rev. counter?

Thanks for sharing

The E36 316I was actually built off the e30 platform I believe. So e36 parts are probably the wrong ones to be looking for. If you are confident enough the best way would be pop the cluster out and find a part number then you can make sure any cluster you buy will match.

Have you checked the fuses?
