Hi guys the code setting on the multifunction display i am told is a engine immoberliser tap in 4 digits to set it then tap in the same 4 digits to take it of is this correct and how to find the correct 4 digits for the car if anyone can answer this and run me through it from start to finish my car is a 1997 328 THANKS

You're right. You can set a code on your multifunction display to stop your engine from running unless a code is entered. This should stop thieves from steeling your car. It should help you understand how it works. The only thing I hate about this feature is that you can't set the code once and enter it everytime you start your car. This means you'll have to set the code everytime you leave the car too which becomes boring after a while

@Tony: On the blog post you said that the hood and radio contacts are monitored when the code is armed. Do you know if having an aftermarket headunit will mess with this functionality?

I agree that this process of setting the code each time is not the best, but I would definitely use it occasionally when I have to park my car somewhere for extended periods of time. Just want to make sure I don't lock myself out when I try it!

hi mate i retro fitted an 18 button obc into my 328 with the code feature and i also have an aftermarket head unit. 2 things to remember 1 the radio connecter block should be the same and 2 you will be putting the 4 numbers in yourself so there is only you that can unlock it ! does that make sense?

I've just checked my car which has an after market head unit. It works just fine even with the car locked. When I turned the switch on, it started to work, but the car refused to start.
