Postby thepasty on Thu Mar 19, 2009 1:49 pm

Hi all,
This is my first time on the forum. I have got a 1997 323i BMW. I would like to change the half button OBC to an 18 button OBC.
Is this possbile? are all the wires in place or will I need to take the whole dash board apart.
Also does anyone have a simple intalling instructions.

Thanks

Hi,

If you fit an 18 button OBC & experience any weirdness, either with the computer or subsystems of the car, you may need to reset the "Einheit 1" & "Einheit 2" codes- which means unlocking the OBC. The unlocking is easy but this Einheit code is proving to be a real puzzle! Einheit seems to mean One Unit in German & the values seem to be represent a hexadecimal code- each E36 with the 18 button OBC I've seen seems to have a different value entered, possibly due to different vehicle equipment spec's. I'm trying to start a thread regarding this, so if you get an 18 button OBC & unlock it PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF THE DONOR VEHICLE SPEC' & THE OBC's EINHEIT NUMBERS! If we can make a list of the codes v vehicle specs, we might find a way through the maze. I wonder how many E36's have had the mod & appear to work fine but could do with this simple code to improve its function..

Best wishes, O.J.

P.S. Look out for the thread!
