Possible fuel problem?

Postby mark_stone on Wed Jul 06, 2011 4:42 am

Hello all....I think I have a fuel problem or something related...hope someone can shed some light on this.

I was driving the other day and the engine started sputtering and then finally stoped running so I pulled over and with failed attempts to get it restarted I had to have it towed to my house. Its a 96 328i with 193k miles and have had no major issues with it until now. Could it be the fuel pump, fuel filter or just some bad gas got into the system? It started this morning with a rough idle for about 30 sec but then stopped again.

I've done all the work on it and am fairly knowlegable about my car but this one has me stumped and want to know if anyone can steer me in the right direction where I might start looking.

Thanks...Mark

I have a simular problem , on starting it runs a bit rough but when you give a bit of gas it stops . also if I turn engine off and restart it will restart with no problems and drives Ok. Sometimes when driving the the rev counter will will flick and it will run slugish, again if iIturn off engine it will restart OK and run OK. I suspecting a fuel pump issue thats why it will correct it self on restart. I have replaced the fuel filter but no change. Any Ideas.
