Rear Wiper Operation

Hi all
I have a 1998 (R plate) 316i Compact and cannot fathom out how to de-activate the rear wiper. The handbook doesn't help at all. I can activate it fine but cannot switch the damn thing off, unless I turn off the engine!! Not a good idea on the motorway!!!

i get this problem a lot.i have found that a short stab at the wiper arm sometimes does the trick.
