Postby black deemon1 on Sun Dec 06, 2009 7:17 pm

hey people, im new to this and looking for a bit of help. i have a 328i rescently a problem has accoured. it starts perfect at times, some it struggles. when idling it is rough and when driving it lacks power and stuters now and again i got a diagnostic check and it came up as the crankshaft position sensor so as you do you get a new one. the car was running fine for about 3 weeks now its doing it again why could this be? any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the forum. Did you repeat the diagnostic check again? Any specific faults?
best regards,
Tony Sticks

well if it was running fine after replacing it then thats what was at fault. did you buy it new or from a scrap yard. could it be that the sensor was faulty. ??

it got done at a garage, part came from bmw. im phoning the garage tommorrow to get another dia check. this has been a long and painfull process it all started with the throttle position sensor needing replaced which i had done myself then progressed on to an idle control valve now at the current situation of the crank sensor now this may sound odd but some times its fine sometimes not. what i have noticed tho is when it rains it does it straight away? if it was a new crank sesor why would it do it again? symptoms are 1- struggles to start it turns fine but struggles to pick up
2-when it picks up revs stutter rapidly
3-lacks power all the way through the revs in every gear
4- when you dip the clutch it doesn't catch the idle and stalls
when it had its first dia check 10 faults came up main one being crank others were all to do with the exhaust system ie exhaust flap sensor, tank venting valve electrical fault, sensor 2 heater before cat, vanos electrical fault, idle speed actuator close coil, idle speed actuator open coil, sensor heater before cat, fuel pump relay i presume they were all trigered by its rough running?

I have a similar issue with my old 735 i. it will turn over and run, but if I don't keep it revved at 2000, it will choke and die. It started after our first big rain, and I ended up replacing the plugs. My fuel pump seems to be working, and after it warms up I don't have any problems, but if I don't warm it up, it won't immediately start after I turn it off. It makes stopping for gas a nail biter, and I don't have extra money to spend having a tech run an OBD. Any ideas? It was telling me to check control before, but it hasn't for a while.
