speed bumps and emission sensors

Postby Delvsie on Thu Apr 07, 2011 6:13 pm

Greetings!

I hit a particularly nasty speed bump the other day in my 1997 328i convertible which whacked the undercarriage pretty hard and I later noticed that the "Check Engine" light was illuminated.

After reading through the manual I am guessing that an emissions sensor may have been damaged?

I haven't taken it in to my mechanic to put it up on the rack and have a look yet and was wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience and may know a quick fix for it.

It also seems to have hindered performance as well.

Thanks!

I believe this may be your O2 sensor because this is located at the lowest part of the car. You should find it mounted to your exhaust (center). So, it's most probably that either it has been ripped or at least its cable has been cut off.
