Springs???

Was having a good look at my car the other day and started noticing the right hand side was sitting a bit lower than the left side. I know my car tends to look like its sitting on its a$$ all the time
Pic here

But after measuring it, im a half inch lower on the driver side!!!
Took the 2 back wheels off and yup there was 4 inches of the spring sitting in the bottom of the spring housing on the driver side.

My question, seeing as i have to replace both rear springs i may aswell just do the upgrade of the entire suspension now. What setups are people using. Im looking for a firm but comfortable ride, i do alot of motorway driving so i dont want so stiff springs that i rattle the fillings out of my head. Just looking for peoples suggestions and opinions..

are you saying that the "pig tail" has snapped off? if so id replace both the rear springs too ensure the other side doesnt go aswel. but the problem i have is that the rear driver side is sitting a lot lower than the passanger side and there is no explanation for it. and i replaced it for new shocks and springs all round.

you have a few opptions open to you. you can go for coil overs, adjustable hight and dampening of the springs (most expensive opption)

aftermarket shock and springs (i paid 300 quid for this opption)

uprated springs or standard springs (cheaper opption)

hope this helps.

Yea the pigtail and another half to 1inch of the spring :(
Its the 1st big repair my car has needed since i got it 6months ago and i only paid 1100euro for it so i dont really mind.
Anyone got any specific springs that they found very good?

depends on what your budget is lol, like everything these days it all comes at a cost.
the BMW will be the third car i have had SPAX suspension on and its never failed me yet and it cost me £300 for shocks and springs

if you only want to change the springs then £50 to £70 should sort you out with a nice set of springs. try E-BAY

As far as i know and im not to certain, the compact uses a completely different suspension setup. The saloon, estate and coupe use the same setup but BMW used the setup off the E30 for the E36 compact. Im not certain but im sure another member who is more familiar with the compact will set me straight if im wrong :(
