Is the starter motor turning when you turn the key or is nothing happening at all?

hi, only ignition lights, starter dead , selinoid dead , no clicks, turning the key, not start even when towed , n. reg model 2.5 diesel
does this model have , dreaded immobiliser.
it was stopped normally , locked central locking, bad weather did not use , battery went flat,
new battery, no go, towed it , one puff off smoke , nothing more..
heater lights on, oil light, they go off when towed as does battery light. as engine is turning, no fire up, i,m afraid, like a fuse somewhere has popped.
i,ll get a manual, check out wiring, i am a tv engineer so , will manage basics,.
i do not have a fob, bought the moter , drove 150 miles trouble free, starting alright at garage after filling petrol. it was present for son.
his son , my grandson not keeping good health, so the family helps my son out
looking after his wee lad. needs a motor.
any help welcome and will be tried.
