towing...

Postby louis.howe on Tue Sep 29, 2009 3:51 pm

I am interested in a BMW 325 auto 2 door, but was wondering if it is possible to fit a towbar to tow a small boat? Thanks, Louis

Yea should be ok, id personally be more concerned about the torque converter on the gearbox. Personally id stick with a manual gearbox when it comes to towing, it wont do to much damage to the autobox but a manual gearbox will last longer under stress. Just my opinion.

thanks for the reply! I will only be towing very occasionally, I prefer to drive a manual but this auto is a really nice one!

Alright, there is a beautiful black 95 coupe always parked in the car park behind my work, it has a tow bar on it. Id say any tow bar that fits an e36 would do. As far as i know there chasis at the rear are all the same.

a 325 is good enough for the job, again an auto box is ok but not as good as a manual. a manual will be better for towing because you can utilise the gears better on hills etc where as the auto box will want to change gear and so on ... but as you said if its for occasional towing then either one will be ok.

Great! Thanks for the info! If I dont get the auto (I have my car to sell first) then I will go for a manual, I prefer manuals anyway. It would only be occasional towing, towing my small boat.
