Tyres Rubbing, Please Help

Hi friends,
can someone please help. I have just bought some 18" Hamann replica alloy wheels (8J, ET35) with 18/225/40 tyres to put on my N reg 318is coupe. After putting them on my car & drooling profusely at how magnificent they looked, i jumped in & drove off to show them off to anyone who cared to notice my latest modification only to find out that the rear tyres rubbed in the arches ( not to sure about the front ones). Would putting different size tyres on cure/remedy this problem eg, 18/215/35 or are they the wrong wheels for my car? I was assured they came off an e36. Any help or advice would be greatly apprieciated. David.

Find out where they are rubbing. Going to a narrower tyre may not be suitable but certainly a lower profile will help alot.
Is your car lowered? It may have been the car they came off was not lowered.

Hi 96_323, no my car has not been lowered that i know of, the tyres are rubbing on the outer edge, catching the wheel arch, thats why i thought narrower tyres may help.

You can only go 5mm narrower on the tyres cause of the rims. Id try a lower profile tyre, if that doesn't work then your going to need to roll the arches out.
