Upgrading Brakes!

BMW E36s are relatively heavy cars, how easy is it to upgrade the Brakes in a BMW E36 318i 1997? Does it need a lot of work? Is it the same deal with Drum brakes as well as Disk brakes?
And, is it relative to the size of the rims?

96_323, you mentioned upgrading yours, any input regarding?

Yup i went for cross drilled disks on the front and back, they are the same size as original, wasn't arsed with the looking around to see which disks from bigger cars would fit.
This is a link to the disks i got, didn't get them there though.

Also went with EBC red stuff pads.
Heres a link to them where i did get them.

Iv noticed a considerable difference but the red stuff pads alone will make a big difference.

I didn't even bother looking round for the pads, they are very hard to find suppliers, i just ordered them off the interweb.
Let us know what you think about them when you fit them.
Did you stick with the original disks or did you upgrade them?

I live in Lebanon, it's not that easy to get stuff shipped. I only found 2 boxes of RedStuff for my E36 318i, and bought one of them. I will wait till my brakes are done for and make the swap. I will change the Disks too, probably not expensive ones though, as u said, the pads alone should make a big difference.
Thanks again, I'll post my review as soon as I make the switch.

Certainly on "track use" the pads are amazing, they last a hole lot longer than normal pads before heat eventually takes over, not anywhere as good as ceramic pads but for value for money they are better in my opinion!!!
Don't go for cheap-as-chips disks, you can pick up decent ones for good value if you do a bit of shopping around!
