window relay location????

Postby jitsjaf2009 on Wed Sep 05, 2012 4:20 pm

I have a (new to me) 1995 BMW 325i Convertible (e-36). Everything was great until Sunday when my windows would not go up. All the individual switches and the "all" windows switch are totally unresponsive. I checked fuses for window lift front and window lift rear and top. all are good. I am assuming it is the window relay. My owners manual, nor my Haines indicate the location (under-hood 'map' I found does not indicate a window or comfort relay. Can anyone tell me where it is located...or if I need to check something else. There is no master window-child prooof switch indicated that I can find. Thanks...jim

If your windows are still down and you have one touch, you should be able to insert your key in the door lock, turn it towards lock and hold. Windows and roof should close if they are open.

Which fuses did you check? Double check 11, 14, and 43. 43 has nothing to do with windows but has been known to effect them.

Your comfort relay is under the the dash on the drivers side. There's 5 relays, 4 in a square and one off the side. The odd one out is the comfort relay.

Thank you, Tony...I did not check 43 to the best of my recollection. I will do that first, then go to the relays under the dash. Sounds easier. Nothing I have indicates there are relays under the dash and that is probably it. I am going to try the key thing in a few minutes and order the Bentley Manual. This Haines is very disappointing. Thanks...jim

No harm done!
I'm glad it was only a fuse! If only things could always be so simple.

You have that right. I got my Bentley Manyal and saved the money it cost. me. I was going change the parking brake shoes because I got "no joy" from adjusting the cables at the hand brake and couldn't find an adjustment at the wheel.. Then looked in the manual and found out about the adjustment through the lug bolt-hole.....and the parking brake holds very well now!!! Thanks again.

Well I also just got this 325i, 1995. I can't get the rear windows to work. There is no noise, and there is no reset button near the steering wheel or shifter like I have reading about. There are some relays, under the wheel but only two in that holder. I have checked all fuses and now I am stuck. I think it has to be a power problem. I didn't want to remove the rear panel to get to the motor but would like any advice before going that way. Any ideas.
