95 E36 316i can i change an engine from a manual to an Auto

Postby chazzle on Sun Sep 20, 2009 7:41 pm

I've just bought a 1995 316i Compact Automatic but unfortunately there was a problem with the radiator and the head gasket blew, when i took it to my garage to get it mended he told me that the head is beyond repair because at sometime someone put in a helicoil and they drilled into the water jacket - so now he says it would be better to just put in a different engine - so my question is can i put an engine in from a manual vehicle by just changing over the flywheel and torque converter from my automatic or is the crankshaft different on the manual car Thanx for any help Alan

No the crank shaft will be exactly the same, should be a straight up swap!
