BMW 318IS

Postby 318IS on Wed Apr 29, 2009 7:13 pm

New to this forum, so i just want to say hi to everyone first.

My situation is this, i'm 19 years old and recently failed my first attempt at my driving exam so i've been thinking about buying a car to practise in. I've come across a 318is and i've totally fallen in love with it and can stretch to afford the insurance. Since it would be my first car it would be quite expensive and i've worked out that more or less i can afford to own one (not taking into consideration all aspects of owning) but it would be very tight budget! I'm a student with a part-time job earning 460 a month.

Taking into account the reliability of these cars, could i realistically get away with keeping 200 pounds or more of my earnings to spend on other things rather than the car and how reliable are they likely to be and how expensive are they going to be to fix. Also my parents are very negative about it so i just would like know so that i can move on if not.

Cheers all.

If you're stretching it to pay for it, you'll be in for a nasty surprise when it breaks. As far as cars their age go they are pretty reliable as long as they have had the common less reliable parts replaced earlier in their service history.

I'm 19 too which makes the insurance very steep and I know that if something breaks it'll hurt the wallet but I love my car all the same.

At one point I was looking for another car to replace it but there's nothing in the same price range that comes any where close.

Good luck
