holding back

Postby bmwste on Wed Apr 18, 2012 7:48 pm

hi folks.
I am new to BMWs and have a really nice 1.6 1998 saloon.
Everything works fine, but it seems to be holding back when i put my foot down to pick up speed. I know the 1.6 isn't the fastest BMW but it drives really nice.
I can only describe it as an intermittent thing, as it will feel as though it's holding back then instantly release and pick up speed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like it needs a good tune up or timing may have slipped.
I dont think it's fuel, A diagnostic check should tell all.

Could be many things including;
Fuel filter
Spark leads
Vacuum leak
MAF
TPS

Getting your codes pulled would be a good idea but won't always tell you everything.

A simple think you can test to start with is to unplug your MAF and take it for a little drive and see if it behaves better.
