Is there anything like a 1.6 Litre M42 engine?!

Hi guys,

I have come across a car to buy, it is a 316is coupe e36. The weird thing is that it is has a 1.6 litre engine however, its owner claims that it is a M42 engine which produces like 115 hourse power. Is there anything like this engine in reality? I did not go to mechanics to test it but I am searching the net and I see that M42 engines come in 1.8 sizes no 1.6!! please advise

M42 engines are 1.8 litres. Not 1.6 litres.

M42 is the engine code. M40 and M43 are the 1.6 engines, so id imagine its alot more likely to be one of those unless its had an engine transplant.
