i get a loud ticking / gas escaping noise when the cars underload. its pretty much sounds like a hole in your exhaust pipe. from what i gather, the 318is's are notorious for this

I think you should start by trying to fix this problem then. It will defintely help if not solve the problem completely.

Hey guys i have a 325i 1992 and im having the same issue, i have done the following with no success:

Clean MAF
Clean ICV
Replaced couple broken vacuum hoses
Check for vaccum leaks

When i first bought the car i drove it for around 40 miles and it never did this (the idle problem) but i had a check engine light on and i took my car to the shop, well they did so much stuff to my car and they also replaced the oxygen sensor for an aftermarket one, the light is gone, the idle problems appear.

My car turns on fine, then at some point when is on idle it starts shaking and boucing from like 200 RPM's to like 1100 RPM's, it feels like its gonna stall then, suddently it fixes itself and it does it again randomly

Did you guys figure out what the problem was? Im a bit desperate here but im not going to give up, im looking to replace the aftermarket Oxygen sensor first, then knock sensors, and im also thinking on buying a brand new ICV, now i also have the idea of replacing the knock sensors and even ignition coils, i have made a list of possibilities and im going to attack them all i guess.

If someone fix the problem please let me know what did you do.

I appreciate your help.
